UPDATE 3.49pm:

Fury brew in Vusimuzi Section in Tembisa as residents from Vusimuzi Hostels in Zinyiko attempted to attack foreigners’ spaza shops on Wednesday.

Violence emerged in various parts of Tembisa since the beginning of the month.

Capt Neldah Sekgobela, Tembisa South SAPS spokesperson, said Tembisa South SAPS were on high alert as chaos continued.

“They called in reinforcements with a helicopter while law enforcers battled the crowd armed with stones on the ground.”

“The angry crowd from Vusimuzi marched the streets in an attempt to loot neighbouring Somalian shops,” said Sekgobela.

“The police urge shop owners to remain closed. Pedestrians must stay alert on the streets for attacks and motorists must find alternative safe routes.”
