Pledge your Santa Shoebox for 2019 Christmas season

This is a personal engagement for donors, as each name belongs to an underprivileged child in their community.

One of South Africa’s most-loved charities, the Santa Shoebox Project, has officially opened public pledging for 2019.

The project, now in its 14th year, collects and distributes personalised gifts of essential items and treats for underprivileged children throughout South Africa and Namibia.

In 13 years they have reached more than 850 000 children and this year they hope to add 100 000 to that number.

Residents can now start pledging their Santa Shoeboxes and help make a difference to the lives of children throughout South Africa who may not be receiving a gift this festive season; plus, the project has made it incredibly easy to do so.

Simply visit www.santashoebox.org.za, pledge your shoeboxes and collect up to four free flat-packed shoeboxes from any of the 50 Stor-Age Self Storage stores nationwide.

Fill the shoeboxes with eight items as listed on the website, decorate the box, affix the barcoded label and then drop it off at locations across the country on specified dates. The Santa Shoeboxes will be delivered to underprivileged children across the country in time for the festive season.

Comments Debbie Zelezniak, CEO of the Santa Shoebox project: “We are incredibly excited to open pledging for 2019. This is a personal engagement for donors as each name belongs to an underprivileged child in their community for whom they prepare a meaningful gift.

“Donors choose their beneficiary child with the knowledge that the shoebox they lovingly fill with treats and essential items will be handed directly to that very child. We encourage donors to include a note to the child, often the most valued part of the shoebox.”

The items that are to be included in each shoebox include a toothbrush, toothpaste, facecloth, soap, toy, outfit of clothing, school supplies and sweets. Donors are also asked to include a reusable bag in which the child can carry the shoebox home.

Adds Zelezniak: “We invite all supporters to connect with, uplift and inspire 100 000 children this year, who upon receiving their very own Santa Shoebox, will share in the joy of giving.”

The public is invited to volunteer and become part of a team that brings smiles to thousands of children every year. For more information on pledging and drop-off locations, visit www.santashoebox.org.za.
