Being unemployed should not be the end of the world for young people who are faced with ever-escalating joblessness.
Two Tembisa women, Lethabo Bapela and Cheseho Khondowe, took it upon themselves to create their own employment when they were faced with retrenchment.
“When we were told the company we were working for was going to retrench people, we started playing around with business ideas.
“We established a Kasi boutique which started out as a children’s clothing store, even now most of our clothes are still for children,” said Bapela.
She said their supplies do, however, include all ranges, from men’s wear, women’s wear to children’s clothing.
Bapela said the store, Kulcha, is also meant to bring all Kasi brand owners to one central space so that Tembisa fashion lovers can easily access local brands.
The two women are calling on all local entrepreneurs to display their clothing creations in Kulcha.
Bapela said their challenge at the moment is finding funding to enable them to realise their dream of owning a shop that can display Kasi talent in the fashion space.
She said the reason they called their shop Kulcha was to create a supportive structure where local entrepreneurs can thrive through their art.
Tembisa entrepreneurs who wish to display fashion creations at Kulcha can call Lethabo Bapela on 072 938 1870.
