Two Jeugies make a run for it as police search school

Only a limited amount of dagga and other paraphernalia were found.

Two Grade 10 learners from Hoërskool Jeugland made a run for it when a team of law enforcement officers carried out a search at the school on Tuesday morning.

Metro police spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng said the two, aged 16 and 18, were chased and caught by officers after trying to jump over the school fence.

“They cited they were scared because we were going to detect they smoked dagga earlier on. Their close relatives were summoned and they are under their parents’ care. Disciplinary measures are imminent from the school governing body,” said Mokheseng.

According to him the search was carried out between 9am and noon on request from school management.

Mokheseng said law enforcers visited Jeugland as safety challenges at some schools regularly arise as learners bring narcotics and dangerous weapons to school.

Classes, learners and their bags were frisked. Police found 10 lighters, four Ziplock bags containing dagga, six boxes of cigarettes, two vape machines, one vape pouch with a spare battery and the coil, two Myprodol capsules, one homemade dagga pipe and two flip pocket knives within the school premises.

All the items were confiscated, sealed and booked in at Norkem Park Police Station, with no incidents or arrests effected, said Mokheseng.
