Tembisa Child Welfare receives books
Apple Seed Foundation donates books to Tembisa Child Welfare
Apple Seed Foundation, in partnership with School Aid and African National Congress (ANC) Women’s League of Ward 15 in Kempton Park, hosted a Children’s Book Drive at Ikhaya Lothando Children’s Orphanage Centre and Tembisa Child Welfare in Tembisa on August 31.
ANC Women’s League Kempton Park Ward 15 secretary Bokani Moyo said the foundation has been running for a year now, trying to make an impact and work with NGOs to encourage children to read.
“The world is full of possibilities and ideas. We have other programmes running, including a shoe drive for learners in Katlehong and in Daveyton and we have groceries for old age homes,” said Moyo.
Penelope Letsoalo, Ikhaya Lothando Children’s Centre manager, said with the children from the centre having books, it was clear that they would be growing into the right direction as knowledge is everything.

“Once you equip yourself with education it becomes a gift of a lifetime. It is clear that having books supports the centre’s vision for children, which is education,” said Letsoalo.
“To Apple Seed foundation, School Aid South Africa and the ANC Women’s League of Ward 15, we really appreciate your efforts in making sure that you collect books and bring them to us. And for spending your time with us and preaching the gospel of education,” added Letsoalo.
Ntsako Mhlanga, ambassador of School Aid, said the aim of the drive is to support the schools in South Africa with recreational resources and educational resources, as well as providing facilities that children cannot easily access.
“As an NGO and private sector it is important that we help the Department of Education with their venture of providing quality education in South Africa.
“We are based in London and we have supported other African countries like Tanzania and Zambia to improve education standards,” said Mhlanga.
