82 suspects arrested in Gauteng crime crackdown

Rapid Response Services comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 82 suspects, recovering 21 motor vehicles and four firearms from June 6 to June 12.

Rapid Response Services comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 82 suspects and recovered 21 motor vehicles and four firearms between June 6 and 12.

Members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols across the province.

These efforts led to 28 arrests for serious crimes, including assault (common and GBH), possession of suspected stolen property, unlawful possession of explosives, kidnapping, malicious damage to property, reckless and negligent driving, being an illegal immigrant, fraud, attempted armed robbery, housebreaking, house robbery, pointing of a firearm, and theft.

Officers recovered 21 hijacked or stolen motor vehicles, leading to eight arrests for possession of these vehicles.

In addition, four unlicensed firearms were seized and two suspects were arrested in connection with them.

Another 44 suspects were arrested for possession of and dealing in drugs. Narcotics recovered during the operations included heroin, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax, and crystal methamphetamine.

Investigations into all the cases are ongoing.

The suspects will appear in various magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
