Gauteng police recover stolen vehicles, drugs and firearms in major operation

Gauteng’s Rapid Response Services, including the Flying Squad and K9 Units, arrested 61 suspects, recovered 33 hijacked and stolen vehicles, and seized six illegal firearms during high-impact operations between June 13 and 19.

Between June 13 and 19, Rapid Response Services units across Gauteng, including the Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members, arrested 61 suspects, recovered 33 motor vehicles and seized six firearms during various operations.

Members conducted concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols across the province.

These efforts led to 30 arrests for serious crimes, including assault (common and GBH), possession of suspected stolen property, contempt of court, kidnapping, domestic violence, driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal immigration, fraud, business robbery, housebreaking, house robbery, murder, possession of counterfeit goods, shoplifting and theft.

A total of 33 hijacked and stolen vehicles were recovered, resulting in nine arrests for possession of these vehicles.

Additionally, six unlicensed firearms were seized, with four suspects arrested in connection with the weapons.

As part of ongoing efforts to address drug-related crimes, police also made 18 arrests for possession and dealing in drugs, including heroin, dagga and crystal methamphetamine, confiscated during separate incidents.

Investigations are ongoing in all cases, and the suspects are expected to appear in various magistrates’ courts across Gauteng.
