Neighbours apprehend suspect

A knock on the door late at night saw the anxious mother peeping through the window at a horrid sight.

Kagiso SAPS arrested a 24-year-old suspect on a charge of attempted house robbery at midnight on 24 June.

It is alleged that the complainant and her daughter was sleeping in their room when they were woken up by an unexpected noise.

A knock on the door late at night saw the anxious mother peeping through the window at a horrid sight..

“The complainant saw two unknown men, one armed with a firearm,” says Kagiso SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya.

The suspects ordered the complainant to open the door, but she refused.

“Seeing that the complainant would not open the door, the suspects banged and tried to open it by force.”

The complainant’s daughter immediately alerted their next-door neighbours about the incident and they swiftly came to their rescue. The neighbours were able to apprehend one of the two suspects.

The armed suspect managed to escape the scene, but his accomplice was not as lucky as he was caught and assaulted by members of the community. Members of the community then contacted to the police and on their arrival at the scene they handed over the suspect.

He later was detained at the Kagiso Police Station where a case docket of attempted house robbery was opened against him.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court soon.
