In an effort to clean up the drug-invested streets of Krugersdorp, police were given instructions to take the fingerprints of any person found in possession of or selling drugs. The fingerprints will be stored in a database.
Building a criminal activity record will enable police to have the drug dealers and users on record for future reference.
It has come to the attention of the police that when prostitutes or those with drugs in their possession get arrested, they have a drug dealer or friend available to come and pay their bail, after which they simply disappear.
The aim of the drug clean-up operation is to eliminate the high incidence of drug dealing and prostitution in Krugersdorp, Randfontein and Kagiso. Owners of property and members of the public had to intervene to help police to evict prostitutes and drug dealers from a house in Kimberley Street in Wentworth Park in Krugersdorp, close to the drug hub of Luipaard Street.
At the beginning of last month detective Commander Colonel Luke Enslin and his specialised drug unit managed to open around 55 cases of drug possession and arrested 69 suspects within a week.
The specialised drug team also managed to confiscate 100 bags (retail size) of dagga in a short period of time. Colonel Enslin urges the community of Krugersdorp to be the eyes and the ears of the police by reporting any suspicious activities in their areas.
“We want to know who supplies and produces the drugs, where the drugs are bought and by whom, and who sells it to the children in our community.”
