Police clearing streets one house at a time

Police cleared a house on Luipaard Street of drug dealers and also found prostitutes living like dogs in cages.

Over the past few years Luipaard Street has become infamous for having a prostitute on every street corner and a dealer in between. “Drugs are a problem for all of us,” says detective Commander Colonel Luke Enslin from Krugersdorp SAPS.

The next target for the specialised drug unit’s clean-up operation was a drug house in the busy Luipaard Street in Krugersdorp close to the local McDonalds fast food restaurant.

In cooperation with the police and property owners, the house at 79 Luipaard Street was stripped clean of drugs dealers and prostitutes.

The local CPF (Community Policing Forum) pointed out the house to the drug unit.

Mogale City Local Municipality also helped with the clean-up by cutting off the electricity supply to the property as the bill was left unpaid for quite a while.

This house also housed a number of prostitutes who were living like dogs in small cages.

After the house was cleared of the drug dealers, the property was put on the market by the owner and it was sold.

“Many of the prostitutes were packed into small spaces like animals in cages,” says Colonel Enslin.

The illegal shop stalls on the pavement of the property also were removed.

Colonel Enslin says that the unit is currently operating within the greater Krugersdorp and Randfontein areas and urges business owners to get involved to combat the drug epidemic taking over the town.
