A 34-year-old woman was taken into police custody on 5 July at a grocery store, following a complaint of fraud by the shop manager in Kagiso.
It is believed that the suspect used a fraudulent bank card to buy a large amount of groceries at the Kagiso Shoprite.
“The store manager (complainant) allegedly was approached by one of his till operators on duty who was experiencing a problem with a customer’s bank card,” says Kagiso SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya.
The alerted shop manager then took the card and enquired with the relevant bank. He allegedly was told by the bank consultant that the card was fraudulent and belonged to someone residing in White City in Soweto.
The suspect’s male accomplice who was with her at the time, quickly disappeared while the manager was busy with the bank consultant.
The shop security arrested the suspect on the spot and later handed her over to the Kagiso police.
The 34-year-old suspect appeared in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court and has been charged with fraud.
