Drug lab busted in Mindalore
The police received a tip-off and managed to arrest a suspect in his early thirties.
A man in his early thirties was arrested yesterday 7 August after the police responded to information from the public regarding a home-made drug lab in Mindalore.
Warrant Officer Hitler Ngwenya, a police spokesperson says after the police had received the tip-off, the Krugersdorp Cluster Drug Task Team monitored the house.
“After thorough investigation the police managed to bust the lab and make an arrest.”
It is alleged that drugs such as crystal methamphetamine, known by its street name tik, as well as Cat were being produced at the small rented flat on the property in Impala Road.
“Whether the owner (who lives on the property) knew about the lab is not known yet, but police are investigating possible involvement,” says Ngwenya.
Products that were being used to manufacture the drugs included normal household goods and a microwave oven in which the crystal methamphetamine allegedly was prepared.
The SAPS Forensic Unit from Pretoria arrived at the scene to determine exactly what types of drugs were manufactured and their street value.
“All drug-related queries get sent to Pretoria as the Krugersdorp Police Station doesn’t have a lab suitable to do all the necessary tests.”
The suspect is expected to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon on charges relating to the manufacturing and possession of illegal substances.
