A 28-year-old man was arrested by the South African Police Service in Kagiso on 12 September for suspected house robbery.
Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya, a police spokesperson says that during the lunch hour the complainant was at home and asleep when she woke up after hearing a noise in her kitchen.
“She was surprised by the suspect inside the kitchen. She then confronted him and asked him how he gained entry,” says Sibiya.
“The suspect instead warned her not to make a noise but she screamed for help.”
He then tried to strangle her, whereby a struggle ensued.
Sibiya says during the struggle the complainant, who was holding her cellphone, fell to the floor. The suspect then grabbed the cellphone and fled on foot.
“No one was injured seriously, other than the complainant sustaining scratch marks to her neck.”
The woman knew the suspect, so she reported the matter to the police who traced and apprehended the suspect within thirty minutes.
A case docket was opened at the Kagiso Police Station and the suspect appeared in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court on charges on house robbery.
