Casual Day celebrated

Law-enforcement entities and other stakeholders had fun on Casual Day and raised money for persons with disabilities.

Casual Day that was held in aid of persons with disabilities on 6 September turned out to be filled with fun, laughter, exhaustion and sore muscles for employees of Krugersdorp Correctional Services, the hosts of the day, and its stakeholders.

The day began with members from Correctional Services and other law-enforcement entities such as Mogale City Traffic Department and the Krugersdorp Cluster of the South African Police Service taking part in a 10 kilometre fun run and walk that stretched from the Uncle Harry’s Roadhouse in Randfontein to the Krugersdorp Correctional Services.

Linda Jacobs, the communications officer at Krugersdorp Correctional Services says that the event started at about 8.30am and at about 9.45am Tshidiso Kongana was the first male to finish the fun run and walk, followed by Sarah Jane Khumalo, the first female participant to complete it at about 9.58am.

“But the fun did not end there. Several sports activities such as netball, soccer six-a-side, volleyball, a tug of war and an aerobics marathon were offered throughout the day.”

After all the sports activities the participants’ vitals were checked and they were allowed to relax and enjoy each one’s company around the braai fire.

Linda says that the main purpose of the event was to build better relationships between their employees and stakeholders but also to give something back to the community.

“Everyone was excited about Casual Day and purchasing Casual Day stickers. Some even bought two or more to support the cause.”

More than R5 000 was donated to the West Rand Association for Persons with Disabilities.

“The support that we received was really great!” says Linda.

She thanks Sector 5 of the Community Policing Forum, Standard Bank and President Hyper who have made sure that the participants had some refreshments along the route.

Other stakeholders that had some fun and gave something during the event include the Mogale City Town Council, Boston Business College, Bosasa, Tommy Martin’s car dealership, West Rand Health and Public Safety.
