Hospice warns of money-making scam
Residents are warned not to fall victim to this scam.

Hospice West Gauteng Administrator Barbara Crawford is warning residents of a scammer using the Hospice name to obtain residents’ banking details.
According to Crawford regular donors to the organisation have received phone calls from an individual pretending to represent Hospice West Gauteng.
“People were told that they had won R20 000 from the organisation and that their banking details where needed,” she explains.
She assures residents that Hospice West Gauteng is not running any competition, and will never ask for banking details over the phone.
“Should there ever be a competition of any sort, the winner would be notified by e-mail and a telephone call – no bank details will ever be asked,” she says.
Residents are warned that the damage can go well beyond losing money to an unauthorised fundraiser if banking details are provided over the phone.
“You can become a victim of identity theft very quickly,” warns Crawford.
Residents who suspect that they might have been victims of the scam can contact Hospice West Gauteng on 011 953 4863.
