Rural youngsters benefit from community program

Saunta Clause paid a visit to Oriental Hills Day care centre in Tarlton.

Global provider of technology-based tools and agricultural products Monsanto visited Orient Hills Day Care centre, situated in a far end rural part of Tarlton, as part of their social responsibility programme on Friday 15 November.

“The visit to the day care is one of the ways in which we give back to the community through a campaign called Monsanto Cares,” explains Monsanto’s Andrea Smith.

“We chose Orient Hills Day Care to be our charity home because Tarlton is in the vicinity of our agricultural hub, the North West Province where we also have some of our research and production sites,” says Andrea.

“In order to achieve food security and to continue in our strive to feed a growing nation; we need to nurture the needs of the future generation of the agricultural industry- that being the children of Orient Hills Day Care.”

The Monsanto team made the visit extra special by donating a jungle gym – which was utilised right away – and providing the school with desks and cupboards.

The day ended on a high note when Santa Clause – one of Monsanto’s employees dressed up in red and wearing a beard – appeared from the back of one of the mobile classrooms with gifts for each of the children.
