Two killed when truck hit children

Two children were killed after they were hit by a truck on the R512 in Rhenosterspruit, near Lanseria, on the afternoon of Thursday 21 November.

According to Netcare 911 spokesperson Santi Steinmann paramedics responded after being called to the scene and found that a heavy goods truck had left the roadway and struck children on the side of the road.

“An eight-year-old child and a 16-year-old child tragically lost their lives, while a five-year-old child and an eight-year-old child were both found in a critical condition,” says Steinmann.

A helicopter airlifted the two injured children to hospital.

The driver of the truck did not sustain any serious injuries. The cause of the accident is not known yet.
