March to raise awareness against abuse

More than 1 000 people from different organisations came together to march against women and child abuse.

About 1 200 people joined in on a march that was led by the Munsieville Community Work Programme (CWP*) to raise awareness as part of their 16 Days of Activism of no Violence against Women and Children.

Solly Moate, the event leader says that the march started at the local police station and ended at two local primary schools.

“We started the march from the grounds of Munsieville Extension 4 and it ended at the Munsieville Sports Complex where the participants were addressed by various organisations. The event continued with some sports activities, choirs and other activities.”

He says that the march was led by the CWP’s Men and Young Men Forum, and a number of non-governmental organisations such as Mogale City Sports and Recreation, the Krugersdorp Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS), Teddy Bear Clinic, Life Line, Munsieville Victim Empowerment Centre, Legae La Bana, Social Development, Families South Africa (Famsa) and Phaphama also took part in the event .

* The CWP is a Community Work Programme that employs people from the community to work around Munsieville to ensure a clean and secure environment.
