A toast to these Toastmasters

Four members of the Bacon and Egg Toastmasters Club participated in a speaking contest.

Four members of the Bacon and Egg Toastmasters Club have proved that they have the necessary skills to be able to represent their country in an international competition later this year.

Oriela van der Walt, Glen Campbell, Khetha Cele and Derric Yuh Ndim used their speech skills to see if they have what it takes to get closer to securing a place at the Toastmaster’s International Speaking Contest, which for the first time will be held in Malaysia.

One of the requirements to be able to participate is that participants need to write speeches that are original and that the words are those of the speaker.

For the contest, which was held at the Meet & Eat Restaurant in Roodepoort, the four participants had to prepare a speech of not more than seven minutes.

More than 20 members listened to the speeches that was presented.

Khetha was awarded a first place at the club contest with his speech, The voice in my head speaks loud.

Oriela was awarded a second place for her speech Word Power which dealt with how words can be used to change the world and the society we live in.

Glen and Derric also took part in the contest with their respective speeches titled Drugs and parenting today and Traditional education versus online education.

The demo speaker Malibongwe Mlonzi who joined the club to improve his public speaking skills, spoke about stress and how it is affecting our daily lives in his speech Out to get you.
