VIDEO: West Rand rapper making it big
This former Krugersdorp High School pupil says he never really thought about rapping – or music for that matter – as a career.
With his hip look, rapper style and moves he could be the next big thing.
KapFresh, a 22-year-old hip-hop rapper from Krugersdorp, is making huge waves in South Africa’s rapping industry. He has made several appearances on national television and other media. He had the opportunity to market his music on well-known radio stations and in magazines.
This former Krugersdorp High School pupil says he never really thought about rapping – or music for that matter – as a career.
“I was a producer when the music bug bit bit me about three years ago.”
With a busy career and schedule that is taking up most of his time, he says he still needs to make time to continue with his studies in Computer Science at the University of Johannesburg.
With a relatively new sound to his name KapFresh says he used to be known as CapitalKing, but somebody else already used the name.
“At school I was known as Kap, and seeing that I wanted to make a fresh start in my music career I decided on KapFresh.”
His music of which he also writes the lyrics is of a poetic nature, he explains.
“Everyone can relate to it. It has your typical everyday life situations such as dealing with heartbreak, happiness and so forth.”
Some successes he has had with his music:
• He was involved in the Fame Music South Africa Online Competition and did exceptionally well.
• In February 2012 he won the #BitchNaBottle competition at Capital Underground in Rosebank and he was one of the BlackBerry Talent Search Rap finalists mentored by AKA in 2012.
• Last December he was nominated for and won the Best Hip-Hop in the West Rand Upcoming Artists Awards and also got the Honorary Award in Hip-hop.
He says anyone who has a dream needs to make it a reality.
