Postal delivery postponed – again
Post Office hopes to resume service in Krugersdorp soon.
It seems that Krugersdorp residents will have to wait a little longer to receive their mail items as the area continues to be affected by illegal strike action.
On Wednesday 15 October the South African Post Office released a statement that “all offices in Krugersdorp and Kagiso had to be closed for the safety of customers after strikers threatened employees in the offices with violence”.
Although mail processing is not yet at full capacity, the statement reads that the Post Office is hopeful that it will be back to normal by next week.
Postal workers embarked on an illegal strike on 18 August, citing dissatisfaction with the speed of appointing casual postal employees to permanent positions as reason for the strike.
Employees at Post Office outlets are not legally striking, but large numbers of Post Office outlets in the Johannesburg and Tshwane areas had to be temporarily closed as a result of violence against non-striking employees.
Intimidation is more widespread in the Johannesburg area, where 50 per cent of post offices are closed. Six branches in Johannesburg are closed for repairs following damage by striking workers.
