Bags of comfort for victims

Teddy bears and toiletries were handed over to help victims of rape and abuse cope.

The Krugersdorp Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) received rape-survivor kits after marching through the streets as part of 16 Days of Activism campaign.

Karina Swart, Director of LifeLine West Rand, handed over a few of these practical kits containing toiletries to the Krugersdorp FCS after receiving a huge donation from Kentz Engineers & Constructors.

Each kit contains a toothbrush, facecloth and other samples of hygiene products to comfort victims dealing with their ordeal.

They also received loads of teddy bears the FCS will use when working with rescued and neglected children.

“When rescuing children from harmful circumstances, there is no time to stop and grab a toothbrush. There has been cases where we rescue children from a home where they all share one toothbrush. These kits also will come in handy for rape victims admitted to hospital for medical examinations,” said Captain Paula Terblanche from FCS Krugersdorp.

Both organisations will be working hand in hand on various projects for this years’ 16 Days of Activism campaign and posed together proudly for the news’ photographer at LifeLine’s offices in Commissioner Street.
