Police member refuses to certify passport

"Sorry this is a fake passport," the officer told the resident.

Quellerie Park resident was denied basic services by the Krugersdorp Police who accused him of being a fraud.

Steven Jones went to the Krugersdorp Police Station in Commissioner Street late Sunday afternoon 23 November to have a copy of his passport certified for work purposes.

Entering a quiet station, Jones approached an officer on duty to assist him with the required documents.

The officer, whose name will be released once the news has received comment from the police spokesperson about the incident, refused him this right.

She claimed she could not certify the copy of the passport and called it a ‘fake’.

The following day he took his alleged fake passport to a officer with a higher rank at the same station and had it certified without any difficulty.

Seeing that Jones had left the country with the same passport on a few occasions, it is absolutely impossible for it to be fake.

Jones could not help but wonder whether this officer was incompetent and could not handle such queries or whether she was too uninterested to do her job on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

The news will publish a follow-up on the matter once feedback has been received.
