Wheeling in the name of charity
Local schools meet at Cradlestone mall for a different spin on fundraising.
The Muscular Dystrophy of SA Foundation put a different spin on charity fundraising at Cradlestone Mall.
Their first-ever Wheel-O-Thon was held and gave the Muscular Dystrophy of SA Foundation the opportunity not only to raise much-needed funds but also to create awareness about the foundation.
For the Wheel-O-Thon abled-bodied people rode in a stationary wheelchair and experienced the challenges the disabled person faces.
“We want the public to wheel and then make donations, which will go towards buying a wheelchair,” said Rae Bagus, national programmes and business development officer.
Members of the public donated R30 and were challenged to wheel for 30 minutes. The brave who managed to exceed the 30 minutes donated an extra R1 for every minute they spent in the chair.
Two school from the area, Kings High School and Trinityhouse also did their bit for charity as pupils volunteered to show what they were made of.
“Without these pupils this charity event would not have been possible.”
