Exciting school outing facility evolves
A stay at Hominin House is the perfect base for visits to the Official Visitor Centre of the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site.
Just as human beings evolve, so must their dwellings … which is exactly what happened at Hominin House, the dormitory-style budget accommodation at Maropeng, the official visitor centre for the Cradle of Humankind Heritage Site.
In addition to the existing dormitory accommodation, which provides accommodation for 120 pupils, Hominin House now sports six en-suite rooms for teachers, an all-purpose hall and an amphitheater fire pit.
The dining area also was enclosed, making it more comfortable during colder weather conditions and also turning it into a multi-purpose room that can be used as an additional classroom or breakaway facility when required.
“These additions and renovations provide our visitors with a more comfortable stay at Hominin House,” said Magel van de Venter, Maropeng client relationship manager.
“Teachers will appreciate the privacy provided by their own rooms and en-suite bathrooms. The new hall and the enclosed dining area provide us with more space for additional educational and team-building activities.
“Finally, sitting around the new fire pit will encourage some down time and conversations, and it will afford pupils the opportunity to experience the beautiful night skies at Maropeng.”
