Mogale City Local Municipality officials brought smiles to the faces of Matla Combined School pupils in Kromdraai when they donated more than ten sanitary-towel bins.
The Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Councillor Anna Setswalo-Moja accompanied by the Social Services department officials and staff from the company manufacturing the sanitary bins handed over the bins to the school deputy principal Thabang Legodi.
Before the official handover, Setswalo-Moja addressed the pupils’ about the importance of using the bins as well as on personal hygiene.
“I’m very much pleased to be part of this noble project which is aimed at restoring dignity to our girl pupils,” Setswalo-Moja said.
“In our times we never had this opportunity and as government we are doing this in order to restore the lost dignity and in making sure that the health of our pupils are well taken care off. As government it is our responsibility to provide quality services to our people, hence, we decided to roll out this project to the rural areas of our city,” she added.
She also encouraged pupils to concentrate on their studies and respect their teachers.
“While we hand over the bins to the school’s deputy principal, we also want to urge you to concentrate on your education and respect your teachers. We are here today to donate these bins so that you can dispose of the sanitary towels in a dignified way.”
Legodi was equally happy when receiving the bins on behalf of the school, and she said, “I’m so overwhelmed with joy for our pupils. We are so blessed as a school to be the beneficiaries of this project. These bins will restore dignity for our pupils.”
The bins are manufactured by the African Corporate Cleaning Company and will be collected and replaced by the same company every month. The staff from the company demonstrated to the girls how the bins operate and how the towels are properly disposed of.
Sheryl Hoffman, the hygiene manager at African Corporate Cleaning Company said she felt proud to have contributed towards the needy pupils.
