Urgent repairs for Krugersdorp schools

At the official Cashbuild Krugersdorp store opening, vouchers totalling R84 000 were handed to all seven schools

Seven schools in the Krugersdorp area have been chosen as the winners of the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition.

They each received Cashbuild building material vouchers worth R12 000 at the Cashbuild Krugersdorp store opening ceremony that was held on 13 March.

Pupils attending class outside or in containers with broken windows are just a few of the challenges the schools are facing.

Patrick Mashego and Krugersdorp Town Primary Schools are two of the seven schools that each will receive a Cashbuild building materials voucher.

“I don’t know how to explain this feeling. It’s good to be recognised; we feel very cared for by Cashbuild,” said Ms Phakathi, principal of Patrick Mashego Primary School.

Ms CW Bester, principal of Krugersdorp Town Primary School said they will use the voucher to assist the school shelter at the taxi rank as well as expand and upgrade the shelter rooms.

At the official Cashbuild Krugersdorp store opening, vouchers totalling R84 000 were handed to all seven schools while the children entertained everyone with singing, cultural dances and theatrical performances.

The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition entails pupils from each school submitting their best artwork to Cashbuild. These artworks were displayed at the ceremony, and then remain on display in the Cashbuild store for the next five years.

Artwork will be judged and three winners from each school will be named. Winners will receive Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates. The Manager’s Choice award was presented to the overall winner of the artwork competition. The winner received a stationery pack and a glass trophy.

The other schools that will benefit from the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart donations are:

• Diphalane Primary

• Munsieville Primary

• Tsholetsega Primary

• Thembile Primary

• Laerskool Paardekraal

Since the Art-at-Heart campaign was launched 13 years ago, Cashbuild has helped more than 1 700 schools in Southern Africa with over R20 million worth of building materials. Cashbuild is BEE compliant and every time a store is opened, relocated or refurbished, Cashbuild not only makes donations to local schools, it also creates jobs for community members.

The Art-at-Heart competition is a Southern African Cashbuild initiative.
