Spare some change for Asilweni
Business owners and the community are invited to help the organisation clean the streets of Krugersdorp.
The behind-the-scenes drug and prostitution crime fighters, Asilweni Cleaning Streets need change.
Asilweni, a non profit organisaion, works in the background to create awareness around the drug and prostitute infused streets of Krugersdorp and is now setting their sights on opening their crisis doors in Krugersdorp.
Since the establishment of the organisation in 2012, they have found two properties in Krugersdorp where they aim to set up two centers but they need the help of local business owners and the community.
“We need help to get us on our feet as we look forward to opening two centers in town,” says Cherlyn Tshabangu, Chairperson of Asilweni Cleaning Streets, who works hand-in-hand with the police on different clean-up operations.
Tshabangu and her team are looking forward to opening a Crisis Center and a Out-patient Center where prostitutes and abused women can receive help immediately when in distress.
“A lot of times when we do the clean-up operations, we come across prostitutes who want help.”
The centers will allow police and organisations to hopefully decrease the high rate of prostitutes operating in the Krugersdorp area.
“One would find that if they seek help, one should help them immediately as fear and addiction quickly draw them back to the slums.”
Asilweni has a safe house in Kwa-Zulu-Natal which can hold a total of 100 people at a time.
“The safe house is ideal to remove the girls from the slums and is far away from the temptation.”
To kick start the two centers, Asilweni is reaching out for sponsors who can help with the renting fees of the properties as well as food parcels, toiletries and clothing.
“We will also offer alcohol anonymous sessions from the centers which will be there to support the community even further.”
