[VIDEO] Disabled need your support
Do you have stuff lying around? The West Rand Association for the Physically Disabled needs it to sell in their second-hand shop.
The aim of the new second-hand shop at the premises of West Rand Association for the Physically Disabled (WRAPD) is to contribute to providing the R75 000 to R100 000 needed to keep the association afloat.
“The shop was opened about two months ago and we already have generated R8 000,” explained workshop manager Elna Coetzee.

Maria Kgatle and Josephine Moeng, two of the seven WRAPD employees, came up with the idea to open the second-hand shop on the WRAPD’s premises at 9 Wheeler Street in Oatlands, Krugersdorp West.
The Department of Social Development’s funding towards WRAPD amounts to about R150 per person per month. For the 72 disabled clients, the state provides a total of a mere R10 800 per month.
“We hope the shop will be a success so that we can continue to look after the West Rand’s disabled,” Elna said.
“Now there is a place where you can take all your unwanted goods, seeing that some charity shops in Krugersdorp had closed their doors,” said administrative manager George Norval.
The shop needs donations of any kind – books, clothes, board games, ornaments, toys and photo frames – to build up its stock.
Whether you are looking to donate or to buy, you will find anything from good-quality clothing to jigsaw puzzles and 2006 Weg magazines.

The shop is open every day of the week from 8am. Monday to Thursday it closes at 3pm. On Fridays the shop closes at noon.
Phone Elna on 011 660 3379 if you are able to help the Association and its dependents.
