Empowerment for breakfast
An occupational therapist shares her wisdom on living a purposeful life.
Forget about eggs and toast, rather add a little empowerment to your breakfast.
Jonas Occupational Therapists (JOT) hosted an intimate breakfast morning in the hope of empowering the community.
Between the strong coffee and creamy scones, Haneke Jonas talked about transforming the mind and soul from the inside out.
JOT is situated at the Life Poortview Clinic but plans to empower the community by regularly hosting various workshops and talks around Gauteng to teach others how to take control and move closer towards achieving their goals.
Haneke along with her sidekick Menize Haron touched on subjects such as depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and everything in between.

“I like to see people live a purposeful live,” Haneke said, as she explained how depression, anger, guilt and fear if not treated could lead to other mental disorders.
One of her tips were to find what makes you ‘tick’ and to stick with it.
In a testimony Haneke revealed that after she nearly suffered a burnout, she got a wake-up call and started working on empowering individuals who struggle to cope.
“How can I make this work? I cannot help others if I cannot help myself,” she remembered saying to herself.
The secret she discovered was that it is not what happen that matter but how you perceive it, “It is how we look at the world around us,” she said.
She encouraged the guests to ask themselves how the bad/ sad/ mad is servicing them?
“It is important to establish what drives you, what is your void. Everything that happens to you is part of building towards your purpose, it is how you perceive it that differs from person to person.”

She encouraged them to prioritise what is important, “Many people do exactly the same thing, it is just the way how they do it that’s different”.
After the talk, guests enjoyed a lovely breakfast at Ana Paula’s Coffee Shop and discussed different scenarios with the new life hacks they, together with a dash of inspiration, learned.
