For the love of dance
Organiser of the annual West Rand Hip Hop Championships said he is bursting with pride to see so many dancers participating.
Dance was the only language over 500 dancers had to speak when they participated in the recent West Rand Hip Hop Championships which was held at Mount Usambara in Muldersdrift.
Mario Gomes, owner and a dance instructor at the Mario Gomes Hip Hop Dance Academy (MGHHDA) who organised this championship annually says he is bursting with pride to see the amount of different dancers coming together for one love and that is dance.
“The support for hip hop dance has grown so much and I am truly humbled. This is just another indication that the West Rand dance community is definitely not dead and that we are a force to be reckoned with.”

He said he is very proud of his 250 students who were among those who participated.
“I am also very proud of the fact that over the past few months my students have been raking in awards in the various hip hop national competitions that we took part in.”
Over 135 dancers have qualified to represent South Africa at this year’s Hip Hop World Championships taking place in Italy in October.
“That is something to be proud of for being such a small dancing community. My dancers have grown so much in such a short time and I can only promise great results for the Hip Hop World Championships.”
