Over 500 children from Tarlton were treated to some fun and gifts.
It was a joyous occasion for over 500 pupils of the Tarlton Intermediate School who were treated with a special Christmas in July event.
The Women’s Network of the Tarlton Police Station together with the Social Crime Prevention Unit decided to give back to the community by hosting this outreach programme at the Nelson Mandela Community Hall in Tarlton.
Tarlton Police’s Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Bonny Molefi said the police always try their utmost best to give a helping hand to needy people in their community.
“My staff told me they would like to host an event for needy children in the community as many of them don’t really get any gifts during the festive period in December.”
He said the children will each get a school backpack, pens, pencils, beanie, gloves and various other gifts and sweet packs.
“There are some pupils who have been identified by the school as needing new shoes and they will be receiving new school shoes.”
A computer and printer was also donated to the school.
“I am really proud that my staff was able to put an amazing event such as this one together,” Bonny said.
