[SOUND CLIP] Eyewitness alleges it was murder

An eyewitness tells of the night where a man was beaten to death at a local night club.

A woman who had witnessed the incident at Lime Lite Pub and Grub over the weekend that left a man dead, claimed that most of the reports of what happened are not true.

Andrea Nel briefly brushed shoulders with the deceased, Allen Eksteen, on the night that he allegedly was beaten to death by the bouncer of the nightclub in Krugersdorp West.

“When we arrived at the club at around 9pm, Eksteen was standing outside and asked if he could use a lighter. He was pleasant and friendly,” Nel recalled.

Nel and her friends then entered the club and made themselves comfortable at the pool table close to the window.

She explained a fight had broken out among the youngsters outside and remembered seeing Eksteen trying to help break up the fight.

“Everyone walked their separate ways and there was a moment of calm. The next moment the bouncer hit Eksteen who fell to the ground and didn’t get up again. I could not image why the bouncer had hit him like that because it seemed out of the blue. The other rumours are untrue. This is what I saw happening. Eksteen did not stand a chance against the bouncer. It was not right,” Nel said. She described the blow as intentional and hard, and alleged the expression on the bouncer’s face and his body language confirmed it.

Nel explained that the bouncer quickly walked into the club and made his way to the bar. There he spoke to the other employees who all continued with what they were doing. She claimed the bouncer also chatted to other patrons as if nothing had happened.

“When the CPF arrived you could see they really tried their best to assist Eksteen. There was so much blood; too much blood for a small injury. The CPF tried to resuscitate him.”

It is alleged that the younger crowd was chased away from the club before the police arrived, followed by the rest of the patrons.

Nel found it strange that patrons were told to go home and not asked for statements.

“It was murder,” Nel alleged.

According to the owner of the club, Wilma Sammons, the bouncer did what was expected of him and after the incident he handed himself over to the police. He has not appeared in court yet as the police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Eksteen’s death.

The News has been trying to get hold of the bouncer for his comment about the situation but all attempts had been unfruitful.
