Local braves the Crocodile River
A local white-water river adrenaline junkie placed eighth at the N4 Trac Lowveld Crocodile River Race.
Daryn Koertzen finished as eighth senior overall after kayaking 60 kilometres in five hours and 34 minutes.
Daryn is a Krugersdorp High School alumnus who lives in Krugersdorp. Every year he participates in the N4 Trac Lowveld Crocodile River Race to get his annual adrenaline fix.
This kayaking race is the only triple A-rated river race on Gauteng’s race calendar.
“With a water release from the Kwena Dam, the river flows fast with a downhill gradient towards Nelspruit around the contours of the mountains, through the valleys of Schoemanskloof,” Jennie Dallas, Gauteng Canoe Union’s public relations corespondent told the News.
“Numerous rocky rapids, steep drops and sharp, tight corners with huge boulders scattered across the narrow river provide a spectacular and scenic challenge for experienced white-water river racers,” she added.
Daryn finished both 30 kilometre days of the race and is looking forward to do the same next year.
