Best at keeping fit

No matter your age or your fitness level, keeping fit is of utmost importance.

Run, walk and run some more – for a healthier life.

The Run/Walk For Life programme, about 30-years-old, looks at ways of reducing the death rate by monitoring exercise patterns suitable for different individuals.

The Krugersdorp branch received a national award for being the best small branch among the 100 branches countrywide.

Ronald Eykenduyn, the Krugersdorp branch manager, spoke to the News at Khosa Sports Club where they are based. According to him the branch now has members from seven to 70 years old.

The members come together three times a week, looking for a bit of fresh air. The workouts last about an hour and start with dynamic stretching and warm-up sessions, followed by timed running or walking laps.

“Sometimes we take on the streets and walk or run for up to 10 kilometres outside the club,” he said.

The Run/Walk For Life programme focuses on members’ abilities and makes sure the exercise is within their limits.

“We try and prevent injuries and not spur them on,” Ronald explained.
