Local cyclist braves 660km
Leon Crous finished the challenge for the fifth time.
For the fifth year local cyclist Leon Crous cycled 660 kilometres to Durban – in two days.
Leon, a 32-year-old local businessman who lives in Ruimsig with his wife and two young children, told the News how challenging it was, but that it was equally rewarding.
“When you go past the 100 kilometre mark, you start becoming a bit more quiet. This is make-or-break time because when your mindset is right and you conquer that first 180 kilometres, you know you can finish the challenge,” he said.

The Ride for Mr Price Foundation was the sixth annual ride that saw 40 cyclists kicking off in Johannesburg on 29 November and arrived in Durban the next day. This year R300 000 was raised.
Leon admitted the challenge is not for the faint-hearted. It becomes especially difficult when you have to get up the following morning and do it all over again, he said.
The cyclists travelled for about two hours at a time, after which a support team would provide snacks and drinks next to the road. After a quick 15 minute break, the cycling would start again.

For the 10 years that Leon has been cycling, he said it is a sport in which fitness is key.
“You need to exercise weekly to stay fit on the bicycle,” he said.
Not only does he cycle 200 to 250 kilometres a week, he enters the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge as a practice run for the MRP Foundation Ride.
