Not your usual Christmas lunch
A group of lawyers decided to do Christmas a bit differently this year.
Party packs, hot dogs and haircuts were early Christmas presents for Munsieville residents when lawyers took a day off from work.
Jouberts Attorneys employees decided to make their rounds at Munsieville this year, instead of spending money on their usual Christmas lunch.
“The Jouberts team decided at the end of November that instead of having our annual big year-end function that usually includes a selected venue where all staff stayed over, gourmet catering and gifts we will just have a small function and we used the funds budgeted for the extravagant bash to assist a community that is in dire need of even the basic necessities of life that we all so easily take for granted,” Daan Joubert, the firm principal said.
Jurie from Hair by Jurie, a professional hair stylist, gave his time and made his services available free of charge to wash and cut especially children’s hair.
“This culminated in more than 50 professional haircuts to each and every one who felt the need for a wash and cut. From the reaction we received was that everyone felt special,” he said.
The firm spent some time doing a need analysis and decided on Munsieville, a community of black and white families living in counsel-erected zinc houses placed on a flattened municipal dump with basic amenities.
“What started out as a small gesture turned into quite an operation, none of which would have been possible without these donations and we would like to extend a special thanks and our appreciation to each and every one that donated, be that big or small, corporate or individuals,” Daan said.
Through hard work and unexpected and tremendous generosity of normal South Africans, personally and corporate, Jouberts Attorneys were able to compile and hand out quite a substantial parcel to each of the 105 households at Munsieville comprising not only of food, but water, beverages as well as clothing.
“We hope this will assist the less-fortunate families throughout the festive season,” Daan concluded.
