Police arrested a man on charges of assault after he allegedly had stabbed another man and the community stood up against him.
“The 32-year-old male was arrested for assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm at Smokedown informal settlement,” said Constable Lucky Matome, police spokesperson.
Tarlton Police responded to a complaint about fighting at the informal settlement. Upon arrival they were met with the suspect’s sister who said the community wanted to attack her brother.
Questioning the brother (suspect), he confessed to allegedly stabbing someone and the person was taken to hospital.
“He was removed from the area, in order to verify the given information. The investigation verified the story when the victim was traced at a local hospital with a stab wound on his upper back,” Matome said.
The suspect was detained and is expected to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.
Seven other suspects were arrested over the weekend on different charges including fraud, driving under the influence of alcohol and interfering with police duties. All are expected to make a brief appearance in court soon.
