Driver helps himself to goods he has to deliver
A postal service's driver was arrested for suspected stolen goods
Four suspect were arrested for dropping off parcels they were suppose to deliver to other people, at their own residences.
The suspects aged between 37 and 59 were arrested in Tshepisong at around 10.30am on 28 January.
The arrest follows an anonymous tip off regarding the driver of a local postal service who was busy offloading goods at his residence.
“The police followed up on the information and later stormed the suspect’s home after learning that the suspect took the goods back to his residence. When confronted by police, the 59-year-old suspect, who is the driver of the vehicle, confessed to the police that he was indeed stealing goods from various shops,” Kagiso Police station spokesperson, Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya said.
The driver then led police to three of his colleagues who were also arrested for their alleged involvement.
All the suspected stolen goods were recovered from the suspects’ homes.
The suspects were later detained at Kagiso police station where a case was registered.
The acting Station Commander of Kagiso, Colonel Swart has praised members of the community for providing such information to the police about crime.
“If all residents can work like this with the police, we can squeeze crime and restore dignity in our areas,” he said.
The suspects made a brief appearance in court.
