Employees protesting for their rights
Angry workers took to the street demanding to be heard by their employer.
Angry employees working at a mining manufacturing company located on Luipaard Street took to the street and burned tyres in frustration.
Some 35 angry workers met at the gates of the Zante Center business park on Luipaard Street where they set fire to a tyre and sang and danced as they demanded action being taken by the management of their employer.
One of the protesters who works for labour brokers told the News that they are striking legally to contest the issue of unfair labour practices within the company.

One of the other issues is their hourly rate where some workers earn a minimum of R10.63 per hour while operators earn R15 per hour.
The company they work for supply mines with ventilation systems and curtains to withhold dust, among other things.
Another issue for the angry workers is the abnormal overtime worked at the company. The workers said that if they do not work the overtime, they get threatened with the company’s overtime policy and are usually shown the door.
“Until we resolve this issue we will strike, they don’t want to talk to us. We will strike until they listen,” a protester told the News.

Another protester accused the company of nepotism stating the workers do not get the opportunity to apply for other positions within the company but is rather handed over to friends and family on a silver platter.
Members from the EFF (Economic Freedom Fighters) also joined in the strike to support the unhappy employees.
“The EFF is here for your rights,” they shouted before starting to a sing revolution song.
