To Busi Masabalala, having equipment delivered to an address in Mindalore meant entering into another business agreement.
Little did she know that she was about to become a victim of a scam where R28 000 worth of catering equipment would be stolen from her.
Busi, co-owner of a party-planning company with her daughter, Palesa Khabi, received a call from a client who requested catering equipment to be delivered to his residence in Mindalore on Saturday morning, 13 February, for a party he was hosting.
She made the delivery as agreed and her client signed for the pricey equipment.
Later that day she arrived at her client’s home to fulfill her end of the contract, which was to render decorating services, but to her surprise her client neither was at the house nor was he answering her calls.
She claimed that when she went to the person’s house with the police she also found out him to be credit-card scammer and saw credit cards and driver’s licences of unknown individuals lying around the house.
Krugersdorp Police spokesperson, Sergeant Tshepiso Mashale confirmed that a case of theft under false pretense has been opened and investigations are under way.
“People must be vigilant of their surroundings before doing business with potential clients they do not know,” she warned.
