A 22-year-old man was arrested for stealing from a car at the Kagiso Mall recently.
Car guards became suspicious after he approached the car which had been parked for hours.
When the suspect realised the car guards were approaching him, he stole a bag inside the car and then fled the scene.
He was chased and apprehended by the guards who handed him over to the police.
He was arrested and a case of possession of suspected stolen goods was opened against him.
When the police arrested him, things took a turn when the young thief told the police he is from Soweto and that someone sent him to pick up a bag from the car.
Kagiso SAPS Station Commander, Brigadier Sipho Ngubane said in a statement, “The simplest and most possible way of getting rid of crime is working together with all the sectors of the community. We must all play our role in the reduction of crime in our area.”
The News has learnt from trusted witnesses who were at the scene of the crime that the suspect claimed to be paid a small amount to steal cars by people that send him to commit such crimes.
Police Spokesperson Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya said investigations are under way and the suspect is due to appear at the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court.
