Ex-girlfriend murderer sentenced
The 27-year-old suspect and ex-boyfriend of the deceased will spend two decades behind bars.
The young man who was accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend and trying to murder her new boyfriend in Magaliesburg in November 2013, was recently found guilty and sentenced to 20 years in jail.
“The 27-year-old Kenneth Makofane was arrested shortly after the incident. He was found guilty of murder (of his ex-girlfriend) and attempted murder (of the ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend) and sentenced during a trial in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court,” police spokesperson, Constable Rebecca Phithi, said.
Both the young girl and her new boyfriend were completing their final high school year when the attack happened in Ga Mogale, Magaliesburg.
“Both the deceased and the victim were pupils at Magaliesburg State School and both were completing their Grade 12 final exams,” Phithi said.
“The suspect stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death and her new boyfriend was also stabbed several times,” she said.
The Magaliesburg police Station Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Joyce Julla, is proud of the conviction made by detective Constable David Matuwane and the Detective Branch Commander, Lieutenant Petros Motau.
