Woman pepper sprayed then robbed

The police are investigating this case which has some guessing it's a recurring crime trend.

On Saturday (5 March) a woman was attacked outside her home after she was allegedly followed there after doing shopping at a nearby supermarket.

The woman was stopped in her tracks in Rant-en-Dal and ordered by a man to remove her jewelry and hand it over to him. After refusing, he showed and threatened her with the gun he was carrying on his hip. Another man reportedly approached the two and pepper sprayed the woman.

After leaving the woman in front of her house, the suspects drove off in a vehicle with her jewelry.

A sector 3 Community Policing Forum member told the News that the suspect threatened to shoot the woman if she did not hand over her valuables. He explained that there is a suspicion of a trend where shoppers are targeted in supermarkets.

“When you least suspect it, they approach you and take a chance,” he said.

The News was made aware of a previous incident where the suspects used the same approach to rob an unsuspecting shopper.

The police were on scene and a case of armed robbery is being investigated.
