Woman attacked and raped in the toilet

Mojalefa Arnold Moloko received a life sentence after attacking and raping a woman at a local tavern.

The woman went with her boyfriend to a party in Kagiso Extension 8 on 26 February 2012.

Later, when she went to the bathroom, she came across the accused loitering nearby.

Moloko, who was 34 years old at the time, allegedly told the victim to leave with him.

“When she refused, the accused attacked and slapped her severely in the face with open hands. He thereafter dragged and forced her to the nearest open space. A struggle ensued but the victim was overpowered and raped,” said Kagiso Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya.

The victim and her boyfriend then went to the police station to lay a charge of rape.

The accused was traced and later apprehended in Extension 8 after which he was charged with rape.

In the Kagiso regional court Magistrate Reginald Dama found the accused guilty on three counts of rape and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

Dama expressed appreciation for all the efforts the investigation officer had put into ensuring that the accused got what’s due to him.

“The law cannot allow a situation whereby defenceless women and children are not safe to even go to the bathroom. They need to be protected by the law from unfair and barbaric attacks. Such people like the accused, do not deserve to be in the community,” said Dama before handing down the sentence.

The West Rand Police Cluster Commander, Major General Anna Mateisi acknowledged and praised the investigation officer, Family Violence Child Abuse and Sexual Offences unit detective Constable Mapena for everything he did to ensure that the victim sees justice.
