All they need is your love
These abandoned children at a local organisation need your time more than your money.
A safe haven for abandoned babies and children is hidden deep in the heart of Krugersdorp.
House Jade has been providing a safe home for abused or abandoned babies for the last seven years as a registered non-profit organisation.

At present, the haven houses nine babies, one of whom was adopted earlier this week. He will soon be moving to Denmark with his new family. It takes about a year for the adoption process to take it’s course.
Although the organisation is subsidised by the government, it is not nearly enough to keep the organisation running; therefore they rely on donations from the community and local businesses.
“The subsidy from the government is not even enough to cover the salaries of the caretakers and housemother,” said Mareli De-la-hunt van der Merwe, project leader at the haven.
Items such as baby products, and especially milk, are their biggest need – they have already made a plan to cut costs by converting to modern reusable nappies.
“One of the biggest challenges we face is not finances, it’s volunteers. Bath time is when all chaos breaks loose.”

The haven resembles a normal home, with abnormal circumstances. The babies are all well taken care of and loved but need the extra attention that normal children take for granted.
“We would like volunteers to come and help out by spending time with the babies and toddlers, to play with them and give them the attention they desire. It is not always easy to do so with just two caregivers and a housemother.”

“My greatest wish is for each and every child to be adopted into a loving home,” said Mareli.
