Guilty of stealing employer’s property

Police apprehended the suspect when he tried to flee on foot.

Last Chigumbu was found guilty after being caught with goods belonging to his employer earlier this year.

The 23-years-old Mozambican male was found guilty in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court on 20 July for being in possession of stolen property.

“In April the police received information about a tractor transporting stolen property. They responded swiftly to the information and were able to find the tractor carrying a driver and a passenger,” West Rand Police Cluster spokesperson, Constable Gloria Maswanganye explained.

The passenger, Chigumbu, immediately jumped from the tractor and fled on foot, but police managed to apprehend him and searched his luggage.

“Inside the two bags police members found quad bikes batteries, several pieces of copper pipe, copper cables and railway sleepers.”

Both the driver and passenger were arrested on the spot for being in possession of the suspected stolen property.

When the employer enquired about the arrest of his employees, he was informed about the goods found in their possession. He was able to identify the goods as belonging to him.

Through dedicated investigation by detective Molokela, Chigumbu was found guilty and sentenced to one year imprisonment, which was suspended for three years.

“The Hekpoort Police Station commander, Captain MT Zwane expressed his satisfaction with the sentence. He applauded the members and motivated them to bring more perpetrators to book.”
