[PICS] Cars of Krugersdorp: 1951 Studebaker Champion
This car was given a shiny new coat of paint.
This week’s Golden Oldie in the Cars of Krugersdorp series is a 1951 Studebaker Champion, belonging to Eugene Steenkamp.
Eugene bought the car in 2005, and has since resprayed it and replaced the engine and gearbox, but all the parts remain original.
When he bought the car, it was a dull silver colour, and he decided that he needed to do something to make the car look more appealing. So, he turned it into a mock American police car, complete with lights, sirens and a badge on the doors.
Some interesting facts about the car:
• The car is powered by a six-cylinder, three-speed engine.
• It has a 2 779cc engine.
• In 1947, Studebaker completely redesigned the Champion and the Commander, making them the first new cars after World War II.
