Homeless orphan reunites with family
Kgotlello Leso has been reunited with his family.
Not all fairy godmothers hold a magic wand and wear a cape on their shoulders. Some fairy godmothers sit in offices and have a passion for their community.
Kgotlello Leso found his own fairy godmother, who helped him reunite with his family. The orphaned young man was forced to leave the home of a relative after a family dispute. He initially lived with his grandmother after his mother died but she was unable to care for him so he was forced to move from one family member’s house to the next.
He tried living on the streets but decided against it because it would have prevented him from continuing his schooling. He was rescued by a community member who gave him shelter for two weeks.
After hearing of his plight, the News contacted Councillor Emily Mathe, Mogale City’s MMC of Health and Social Services, who became Kgotlello’s very own fairy godmother.
“The ward councillor must be involved to prevent this boy from getting distracted at school. I will call the boy and get social workers involved,”she told the News. Approximately a week later, Kgotlello had reunited with his family where his grandmother resides.
“Social workers came to see me and after they intervened in this situation, my family asked me to come back home,”
the elated boy told the News. Councillor Mathe was overjoyed with the news that the boy now had a place to call home.
“I worked with the social workers and asked them to intervene in this matter and they promised to follow up. What they do is visit the family where the dispute is, and solve it that way. I am glad that the family accepted him back because he is still in school and cannot afford to miss classes due to such issues,” said Councillor Mathe.
