Helping Hands for the Salvation Army

The Mormon Helping Hands Project undertook to help the Salvation Army as their project this year.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints‘ Mormon Helping Hands project was officially completed over the weekend, with the Salvation Army as the recipient of their outreach project.

The Mormon Helping Hands project is all about practicing what you preach, and learning to serve your community. This annual service project is undertaken globally by members of the church.

This year, each group in the church found a way to give back and assist the Salvation Army in Krugersdorp. The women’s group decided to decorate the bathrooms, the men’s group decided to help insulate one of the containers that the homeless sleep in, the children’s group threw a party for the children of the surrounding areas, the youth group decided to offer a self-defence course and the missionary group gave religious instruction.

On Saturday 20 August, the final aspects of the project were concluded, and the handover, as well as the self-defence course, took place.

Jacqueline Pannall attended the day’s festivities on behalf of the Mayor, and spoke about the importance of women in society, saying that we need to continue the ripple effect the Mayor has had.

The Salvation Army were incredibly grateful for the assistance – their Captain Tersia Finn said that she hoped this was the beginning of a good relationship between The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and themselves.
